The Magic in this Other World is Too Far Behind! / The Different World Magic is too Behind! (異世界魔法は遅れてる!, Isekai mahō wa Okureteru!) is a Japanese light novel by Haumei Hitsuji. Originally serialized in "Shōsetsuka ni Narō" from August 2013, it was published in 2014 from Overlap Bunko. The illustrations are by himesuz (Volumes 1-6), Aoi Nekonabe (Volumes 7-8), and Yunagi (Volume 9). As of April 2021, the cumulative circulation of the series, including the electronic version, has exceeded 1.2 million.
In December 2016, the serialization of the manga version by COMTA began on the web comic site "Comic Gardo" launched by Overlap.
Synopsis[]
Felmenia Stingray was a genius magician. She quickly became the most distinguished magician of the Astel Kingdom after her discovery of white fire magic, which had the power to burn anything.
However, the world is in peril due to the Demon King. The kingdom's court magicians perform a summoning ritual for heroes and bring forth two youths, a boy and a girl. Unlike the girl, the young man refused to fight the Demon King and demanded to be sent back to his world. The kingdom, angry with his behavior, lock him away.
Now Felmenia stands before the young man with her strongest magic, the white flame, being completely useless and asks who he is. It was already obvious to her that this man was far stronger than she was. To this he simply responds.

Character[]
The main character of this work. Although he is a member of a modern magic society, he hides his identity. He is adamantly opposed to subjugating the Demon King, so he acts separately from Reiji and Mizuki and tries to return to his original world by any means necessary, such as examining the castle's books and the magic circle between summons. Then, after Felmenia finds out about her actions and background, she will duel with her, but her opponent's power level is lower than expected, and she wins easily.
He is from a family of magi who are currently living on Earth, and although his abilities are at a level that surpasses even that of otherworldly court mages, the person himself evaluates him to be below average at best. He seems to have made some sort of promise to his father, and since he cannot die until then, he has indicated his intention not to participate in the subjugation of the Demon King.
Based on the magic of Kabbalah numerology, he specializes in various types of magic and is also good at analyzing magic formulas. In addition, he is good at handling swords from his experience of attending a swordsmanship dojo on Earth and has high close-combat ability. He is also good at magic using celestial bodies, and has the nickname 『Star Dropper』.

He wields a Mercury katana as his close combat weapon and he can apprehend every slightly in battle. He is also quite as good at martial arts (Taijutsu) combat both defensive and offensive, by using pressure on his palm. Suimei is very knowledgeable in history and gods even myths. Suimei's tactics and understanding are far superior in the world, it became reasoning is inference with regards to the study of logic what he saw.
Everyone in the other world mostly uses elemental magic, however, Suimei uses his own world's magic which is heavily focused on spirituality and religion (i.e. Kabbalah magic) as well as being far superior to the other world's people believing it to be impossible.

Reiji and Mizuki learned magic upon being summoned to the other world, allowing them to fight against other magical beings. In Suimei's case, he was more of a Nerf, as his Magicka isn't as potent as it could be in the other world. The moment he got back to Earth, he showed exactly why he was a high-grand-class magician. Suimei trained as an elite magician since childhood with the result of him being mostly calm, intelligent, cunning, logical, and pragmatic and he is the one smartest also most cunning of the group who summoned as well as being a knowledgeable magician..

He claims to be of a lower middle as a magician in his world, which is the truth. That is until you figure out the fact that he's comparing himself to his father, a Greed of Ten, and other really powerful magicians, so his self-assessment is heavily skewed. Lefille was not amused when she found out. This was due to Suimei's father not wanting him to grow up to be conceited, which is why he drilled it out of Suimei's system. This caused Suimei to think he was a weak magician and had a lack of confidence in himself which caused his father's death. He's a bit better a few years later, but he still tends to downplay his actual strength.

Enth Astrarle: (Oh Starry Sky, Fall) - It creates a gigantic magic circle in the sky that creates numerous smaller magic circles. The smaller circles then release blasts of cosmic ray energy that fall to the earth destroying everything in range. Its destructive power and vast range make it arguably Suimei's most powerful spell and the source of his alias. It's weaknesses are that a night sky is required and that the position and presence of certain stars are necessary. As such when Suimei uses it in the "fantasy world" it is only roughly at half power.

Azure Engraved Beheading (True Blue Decapitation): A blade created by absorbing the blue light of the daytime sky. It possesses purifying attributes and is capable of destroying, at least, a B-rank "Beast of the Apocalypse" with a single strike. Its biggest flaw is usability. Since it requires a blue sky to activate, it can't be used at dawn, twilight, or night.
