Character[]

The protagonist of this work is the reincarnation of Haruto Amakawa, a university student who died in an accident in Japan. The person himself is just a human being in this world, "Rio", and he admits that his memory as Haruto Amakawa is an element and a different person. He is 17 years old as of Volume 23.

Haruto Amakawa
  • Rio's previous life. He died in an accident when he was in college. He is 20 years old. When he was young, he lived with his childhood friend Miharu and his younger sister Aki, but when his mother's infidelity was discovered when he was seven years old, his parents divorced, and he was taken over by his father. At the time of her separation, she left Miharu and her promise of marriage and the oath to "protect even if I die." After that, she devotes herself to her studies and martial arts, dreaming of meeting her again, and refines herself, returning to her hometown when she enters high school.
  • However, he was shocked by the presence of a boy (Takahisa) who was talking to Miharu in a friendly manner and was unable to talk to him. I was caught up in the summons, and I became lethargic, dragging my unfocused thoughts and regrets with me. He is a kind and thoughtful young man who will take lost girls home. However, even with the help of spirit arts, Rio, who was just a vagrant who had just awakened his memories, was able to easily repel the assassin, so it seems that his martial arts skills were reasonable.

Although he was born in the Beltrum Kingdom, his parents' hometown is the Kingdom of Karasuki in the Yagumo region. Because she has Ayame, who was her princess, as her mother, she has an unofficial status as a member of the royal family (however, due to domestic circumstances, she does not have the right to succeed to the throne).

His mother was killed in front of him by Lucius, who had looked after him since his father died when he was young, and he was abandoned in the slums. After that, he lived as a vagrant and survived by sipping muddy water for the sole purpose of revenge, but when he was seven years old, the memory of his previous life suddenly revived. In an incident that occurred while his memories were confused, he accidentally rescued Flora and was allowed to enter the Royal Academy for his achievements and monitoring (in the work, when he entered Rio = 991 sacred calendar). However, due to the social situation where social status is considered absolute, although he showed high ability in academics and swordsmanship, he was scorned by the jealousy and prejudice of other Royal Academy students, and Steard and Alphonse made a mistake during an outdoor exercise before graduation. As a result, Flora is in danger of life and he helps her, but she is falsely accused of assassinating the princess, and she only says goodbye to Celia and escapes. By the way, he has been confessed to and motioned by a noble child who is the same student, but he has a resentment that his pride was hurt by refusing because he judged that it was not realistic considering himself as an orphan and the status of the other party. It seems that it was rare. From then on, he will be known as "Haru" in public, and after being appointed as an honorary knight of the Galwark Kingdom, he will also use the surname "Amakawa".

Immediately after fleeing the Beltrum Kingdom, he was attacked by Latifa, who put a slave collar on him and repelled it. At the same time, she takes her girlfriend who has lost her place to go and visits the village of spirits that was said to be her story of her (although it was actually in the form of getting lost). There, he protected Latifa, a descendant of the Spirit People, and because he harbored a humanoid spirit that was considered sacred in the Spirit Village, he gained the trust of the people of the village and was highly valued. I was given several special magic tools with technical standards and learned various techniques such as spirit arts.

At the age of 14, he visited the Karasuki Kingdom and got acquainted with his father, Zen's relatives, and his mother, Ayame's parents, and their retainers. However, due to an incident he encountered during his stay, he became aware of his desire for revenge against Lucius, who had subconsciously warned him. decide to move on. When Almond is attacked by an army of monsters, he pursues the kidnapped Flora and reunites with Lucius, fatally wounding him. He fought Lucius again with Christina and Flora held hostage, and although he was forced to fight hard, he turned the tide with an attack that imitated Hiroaki's Divine Attire and finally achieved revenge.

At the age of 7, he awakens to the memories of his previous life, and at the same time, he can see magic power and use spirit arts, albeit clumsily. Through his education at the Royal Academy and training at the Spirit Village, he gained the fighting power to defeat Gouki, the strongest samurai in the kingdom, during his stay in the Karasuki Kingdom. His ability to unilaterally defeat Lucius, who was a candidate for the strongest title in the Kingdom of Beltrum, the "King's Sword", made Wraith say "I can't help it".

Based on the knowledge and skills he learned in modern Japan, the Royal Academy, and the Spirit Village, he is now able to do most things by himself, such as carpentry, cooking, sake brewing, pottery, and martial arts. Because it is easy to obtain, there is almost no need to rely on others. From that past, he has a distrust of humans, and perhaps because he doesn't even expect goodwill or goodwill from others, he has a dry side that calmly accepts unreasonable treatment and doesn't even get angry. Even if you are discriminated against or exposed to malice, you handle it so as not to create a storm. He also has the decisiveness to not give up on his actions. Celia analyzes, "Once they become relatives, they are very kind. Deep down, they want to trust people."

Together with Miharu and others, he lives in the "Iwa no Ie" that he inherited from the Spirit Village in the suburbs. He has received several rewards for his numerous achievements, such as being given a mansion in a prime location in Rodania by Restoration and a mansion in the Galwark castle from the Kingdom of Galwark (usually a member of the royal family). It is an exception among exceptions. Upon receiving a request from Charlotte, she teaches swordsmanship to Satsuki and the knights while staying at the mansion within the Galwark royal castle.

Although he mainly uses a sword as a weapon, he has sufficient combat power even with weapons other than swords, such as spears and bare hands. At the Spirit Village, he had a black combat uniform made from Black Wyvern scales and received a magic sword that could amplify his spirit arts. Externally, it pretends that it uses this magic sword's ability to control the wind and strengthen the body with power that is impossible with magic. The disadvantage of having a contract with the spirit of Aishia is that she cannot use magic.

Abilities[]

"Words of gratitude are not enough for the greatest kindness you have bestowed upon my unworthy self. If ever a danger shall befall upon the spirit folk, I vow to assist you as your sworn friend — with my entire being."

― Rio's verbal pledge to Spirit Folks’ elders

In his previous life, Haruto was already a university student before he died. Combined with Rio's knowledge of the new world, Rio is considered multilingual, being able to properly speak Japanese from his past life as Haruto and 3 different languages from the new world: the Strahl tongue, Yagumo, and Spirit language. Although initially illiterate, Rio quickly learned and surpassed his peers in the academy. Rio considered himself to know many things but is a specialist in none despite his friend's protest. Often relying on no one, Rio likes learning by himself about all kinds of things. During his stay in the Yagumo region, Rio shared his knowledge in Yuba's village, drastically increasing the general wealth; he build a bathhouse with a soap, and water-wheel allowing a better irrigation (better harvests mean less death due to famine; several members of Ruri's family die because of the lack of food). The king and queen of Karasuki kingdom (Rio's grandparents) took a great interest in this innovation and project to expand it to the entire kingdom. At the time of his departure, the village is in a better shape, and all the residents are very grateful.

MARTIAL ARTS
— From Haruto's memories, Rio inherited his knowledge in «Ancient Martial Arts», which had allowed him to defeat an assassin while having strengthened himself using Spirit Arts. Later on, he further trains himself at Beltrum Kingdom Royal Academy, developing his style, excelling in swordsmanship, giving his instructors a hard time and he's capable of besting the Royal Guard, Charles Arbor, something his fellow competing classmates couldn't do. At 16, Rio became a master swordsman, and many people were impressed by his sword skills. In addition to this, he is skilled in unarmed combat and could stop Takahisa's sword with his bare hands in a duel, shocking Satsuki.
SPIRITISM (SPIRIT ARTS)
— At first, unnamed, Rio could mimic magic principles since he never succeeded in the contract ceremony. Despite not knowing about it, he mastered it to a good extent, learning things such as healing, strengthening, and hypnosis, surprising Ursula. Rio can use all elements and spirit arts.
  • Spirit Contract (精霊契約, Seirei Keiyaku): He has a spiritual contract with Aishia, a high-ranked humanoid with a universal attribute spirit, who resides inside his soul.
  • Spirit Pact (精霊霊約, Seirei Reiyaku): A secret technique much stronger than the usual Spirit Contract, causing Rio and Aishia to be able to assimilate into a single being. Aside from letting her remake his body to resemble a Spirit's, it lets him use Spirit Arms—a materialization of the bond partner’s soul as a weapon.
《Spirit Contract》

A humanoid spirit who has a contract with Rio. She is a beautiful girl with pink hair. She is Celia, the owner of unparalleled beauty and style, according to Miharu. She shares all of her memories of Haruto, but she has lost all of her memories of herself, such as why she made a contract with Rio and who she is. She didn't even have a name, so Rio named her "Aishia", which means "warm spring" or "beautiful spring" in the old language of the Spirit Village (this was influenced by Miharu, who was present at the time). In terms of his relationship as a contracted spirit, he can be said to be Rio's greatest sympathizer. He says that his reason for existing is "for Haruto", and in fact, all of Aisia's actions are for Rio's sake. However, if Rio is willing to go down the path of misfortune, he will admonish Rio and sometimes take actions that violate Rio's instructions.

She also often speaks and acts to the women around Rio (especially Miharu and Celia) as if she wants to develop their relationship with Rio. There are various places where he is careless, and he even crawls into the bed where Rio is sleeping completely naked. In terms of combat power, since Rio's ability can be traced, it is practically on par with Rio. Although he missed it, he possesses a fighting power that overwhelms Wraith. Her status as a spirit is at least semi-high, but according to Dryas, she has a thin ego and is close to a young spirit that has just been promoted from low to medium.

Personality
— Aishia is a caring and curious girl. She is devoted to Rio and will always accept him. She always wants to try living the same as humans do, eating good food, taking a bath, and wearing a cute dress. Though she's pretty blunt with her words, she has a weak expression, almost expressionless most of the time, and she speaks in a monotone intonation.
— According to Dryas, it's unnatural for Aishia to show a lack of expression as a spirit's personality should mature, and upon becoming a high-class humanoid spirit, they should already have a full personality. Yet, although already a humanoid spirit, Aishia is like a Medium-Class spirit mentally, that is, unless being an expressionless character is indeed her personality. Also, when she manifested, she had no memories aside from knowing all about Rio.

ABILITIES

"Haruto, I only belong to you, and I will always be by your side. Your weaknesses, your strengths, your everything — I accept them all. So don’t give up. Don’t be afraid. And believe in yourself a little."

― Aishia to Rio

MARTIAL ARTS》— Aishia possesses the same martial arts as Rio through some kind of imitating ability.
SPIRIT ARTS》 — As a high-class spirit, Aishia is the pinnacle of spirit art, moreover, she is also a universal attribute spirit, meaning that she can use all attributes in their strongest state.
Telepathy: By creating a path that connects their soul, Aishia can communicate with the one connected with her telepathically. While her main path is her contract with Rio, she also can create a temporary path when getting separated from Rio, her telepathic range can encompass an entire city.

Dream Creator: Aishia can create a dream and show it to someone who's sleeping. It can range from a good dream to a bad dream, and the one experiencing it can only follow the dream without any ability to change anything in it.

DIVINE AUTHORITY
— Rio, as the reincarnation of the Dragon King, possesses an inherent transcendent power called, Annihilation, given to him by the world's true god. This transcendent power is carved into Rio's soul. It's purpose allowed his original self as the Dragon King to fulfill the role given to him by god, to protect the world. This ability allows Rio to erase or nullify anything he deems a threat to existence. Rio first used this ability in volume 20 against the Great Spirit of Earth, another transcendent existence that completely erased both the tsunami of earth and the causality of its damage, making the once obliterated landscape appear as if nothing had ever transpired at all.

Due to his original life as the Dragon King (Ryuo), Rio has limitless Odo or magic essence. During his stay at the spirit folk village early in his travels, Dryas checks on Rio's status and feels immediately that he has a huge amount of odo. Later, Aishia tells Celia that Rio's essence is bottomless.

《Equipment》
Rio possesses different magical equipment, most of which was created for him by the Dwarves of Seirei no Tami after defeating the Black Wyvern near their village. Thanks to the spirit folks' knowledge, Rio can also create magical objects, such as his necklace, which changes his hair color. Most of Rio's equipment is considered inestimable artifacts or national treasures. Liselotte has to restrain herself from asking Haruto for a space-time cache.
  • Black Jacket: An armor set crafted using the Black Wyvern's leather by the Dwarves, consisting of mithril fiber cloth armor, black dragon leather armor, gauntlets, boots, and a long coat. It also earned him the moniker the Black Knight in the Galarc Kingdom. The black armor took a serious beating in the fight with Lucius.
  • Mithril Sword: In addition to his black armor, Rio gained an ancient artifact-class silver mithril sword that has a gem in its guard. It received an enchantment that enforces his Spirit Arts and is durable enough to endure the Heroes' Divine Arms. Most of the time, he uses his sword with Wind Spirit and Strengthening Arts. Liselotte has stated that the Mithril sword belongs to the ancient artifact class. The sword was destroyed by the great Spirit of Earth iV volume 20
  • Space-Time Cache: Rio is given a space-time cache to put his belongings in the Village Elders. It uses Space-Time magic, which is very complicated to make and thus rare. He stores his rock house inside of the Cache when not using it. The time is stopped in the cache, allowing the preservation of food.
  • Changing color air artifact (Earing): In the anime, the object is presented to Rio by the spirit folk, in the light novel and manga it was created by Rio. It allows changing the hair color of who wears the artifact. Rio uses it to change his color to gray (originally black) because he is a wanted criminal in Beltram's kingdom. Later, Rio uses several of those items to ease Christina's escape from Cleia on the condition that no one asks questions about the fabrication of those artifacts.
  • Rock house: After his return from the Yagumo region, Rio presents the idea of a portable house to Dominic, who finds it interesting and builds it. Its name comes from its outside appearance, which takes the sharp of a rock with a door. The house is very comfortable, allowing many people to live in it; several rooms to sleep in, a living room, a kitchen, and a giant bathroom (an onsen made of stone), all in Japanese style. The entire building is protected by a magical barrier, making it invisible. The food supplies are kept in a fridge artifact and preserved throughout the space cache.
  • Diverse: With the tutelage of the elders from the spirit village, Rio can make medicine and magic potions, which are quite valuable according to Christina.
