Sumo
(相撲, sumō, [sɯmoː], lit. "striking one another") is a form of competitive full-contact wrestling where a rikishi (wrestler) attempts to force his opponent out of a circular ring (dohyō) or into touching the ground with any body part other than the soles of his feet (usually by throwing, shoving or pushing him down).- The spoken word sumō goes back to the verb sumau/sumafu, meaning "compete" or "fight". The written word goes back to the expression sumai no sechi (相撲の節), which was a wrestling competition at the imperial court during the Heian period. The characters from sumai, or sumō today, mean "to strike each other". There is also an alternate spelling of 角力, which can be found in the Nihon Shoki. Here, the first character means "corner", but serves as a phonetic element as one reading of it is sumi, while the second character means "force".
In the New World (Rondo of Light and Darkness), where Floortje lives, the martial art of Sumo is enhanced by magic (Sumo Spirit). This mial art gives Floortje an abnormal strength (Monstrous Strength), so even a 10,000-strong royal guard or a dragon (S-rank) can't stop her. In Sumo wrestling movements there are many variations, but here are the basic movements in sumo that are used in the series by Floortje:
- PUSHING: The fundamental action in sumo is pushing, and many other movements derive from an initial, strong forward attack. Stay low and compact, as you smash forward.
- THRUSTING: Similar to pushing, a thrusting attack keeps the opponent at a distance, with repeated thrusts. The rapidity of thrusts is essential, not allowing the adversary to recover.
- FORCING OUT: Many other forward movements involve grabbing the opponent’s belt or locking up the opponent’s body, clamping down, and then forcing him out.
- THROWS: Initial pushing attacks are often followed by pivoting throws, using hinge points on an opponent’s belt, arms, or legs. Timing is most important, reacting to the opponent’s energy.
- LIFTING: When timing and positioning are right, it’s also possible to lift the adversary in the air, dominating the match.
Sumo Wrestling Technique Pro sumo wrestler currently recognizes 82 “kimarite” (winning techniques), but nearly all victories are achieved by the most popular dozen or so kimarite. Techniques are very important in sumo since technical expertise enables experienced sumo wrestlers to defeat opponents who are larger, stronger, or faster.

The other technique was used by Floortje in the series from WN, Light Novel, and Manga Version.
- stomping (Shiko), Pushing (Teppo), Sumo lunge-shuffle walk (Suriashi), leg stretching exercise (Matawari)
- Cleansing Salt: this salt was empowered by light magic. When this salt was spread to the opponent with a monster race they would melt, and when humans give them itchy eyes they would scream in pain.
She possesses the power (Cheat ability), given to her by the Goddess Florence. She can manifest the Dohyo
and reproduced through magical energy. In both pro sumo and international sumo, the rules are very simple: either force your opponent out of the 15-foot diameter “dohyo” (sumo ring) or make your opponent touch the ground with any part of the body other than the soles of the feet.
The Rules: Punching, gouging, and kicking are prohibited, but slapping and tripping are allowed. It is legal to grab the “mawashi” (sumo belt) anywhere around the waist, but not in the groin area. Hair-pulling and picking dirt are also banned. When the opponent has broken the rules in dohyo it will punish.
|
This technique was able to be constructed by Floortje because of memory given form and reproduced through magical energy with a method extremely similar to that used by creation magic. Rather than being a materialization of her inner world. While deployed, opponents who are being challenged are weakened, or when the opponent refuses the challenge they will be forced into the match by pulling his/her body onto the field and a gyōji (referee) will appear to conduct the match of two opponents in Dohyo. The referee will also be changed into the most known Sumo wrestlers in Japan who will conduct as gyōji. |
When the opponent is defeated, they can't move his/her body it is an act of loss in the match. Also, the winner given a reward will give a random object they will often use in daily life.

"―― I will become a meteor."
― Froche to Falaris, the dragon
In the series, Floortje unlocks her divine skill (Expansion
) to defeat the Devil Erhart in the battle. The divine skill she acquired in the battle, can enlarge (Gigantic) and include not only scaling up but also scaling down. Floortje's size changes depending on the environment. Within a room with ceilings, she would settle on a size where her head would touch the ceiling as she stooped, but even during movement in which the environment is not constant, her size would change to a compliant size to the place unnoticed. She did change herself in his room after the war ended.
