Murabito desu ga Nani ka? (村人ですが何か？, I am a villager, what about it?) is a Japanese light novel series written by Shiraishi, Arata. Originally published via the novel posting website Kakuyomu in November 2020, the series was later acquired by Micro Magazine, which began publishing the series in print with illustrations by Famy Siraso. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Sabamu, began serialization on the Niconico-based web manga platform Dragon Age in January 2017.

Synopsis[]

Ryuto Iijima was reborn in another world and became Ryuuto McClain. The optimal occupation of his reincarnated body was that of a villager, his home was an ordinary farmhouse, and he was poor. In a different world where goblins and dragons roam the streets, there are many stories of adventurers and mages who rise to prominence.

However, in a world where one's occupation is largely reflected in one's status, a dragon man is not expected to be a match for a dragon. However, he became the strongest by far while he was still a villager. This is the story of his rise to power, and how he becomes a warrior while remaining a villager.

  • Ryuuto McClain was involved in a traffic accident in modern Japan and was reborn in another world. In this other world, where all abilities are restricted by occupational aptitude, Ryuuto was born into a poor farmer's family with the low occupational aptitude of "villager". At the same time as Ryuuto's rebirth, Cordelia Olston, who has the aptitude of a "hero," and Moses, who has the aptitude of a "wise man," is born in a neighbor's house, and the three grow up as close childhood friends.   • Ryuuto McClain has an audience with the Dragon King, who points out that history has gone awry and the world is coming to an end because Ryuuto, a mere "villager," saved Cordelia Olston, the "oracle's hero," one of only four in the world. Ryuuto is told that Cordelia, who has failed to awaken as a hero, will surely be defeated in the coming battle against the evil dragon. He declares that he will become a "dragon killer" stronger than Cordelia, and succeeds in receiving the "Dragon King's blessing" from the Dragon King, which gives him the same level-up status correction as a dragon man. Later, Ryuuto begins his level-up activities with a slave girl, Lilith, in an underground labyrinth on the outskirts of the Dragon Village. Avoiding the frontal force as much as possible, Ryuuto uses his wits and ingenuity to break through the labyrinth's ordeals one after another in unexpected ways, and after raising his level to over 100, he takes on the final ordeal, a battle against dragon zombies. However, the opponent of the ordeal was Lilith's foster parent, Earthen Dragon. With the "Blessing of the Divine Dragon," Ryuuto left Lilith and the dragon village and set off for new land in search of a place to further his training.

However, Ryuuto, who has grown up to be a strong man, appears and rescues Cordelia. Amanta wonders about the identity of the unusually skilled Ryuuto, but Ryuuto insists that he is just a villager.

  • Ryuuto McClane provokes the evil dragon Amanta into a one-on-one battle. Amanta, backed into a corner, invokes multiple "magic eyes" that enchant the target as trump cards, but they fail to penetrate and are destroyed by Ryuuto's full force. Ryuuto, who has just experienced the joy of reuniting with Cordelia Olston for the first time in several years, sets off again with Lilith for training to save Cordelia from the harsh fate that awaits her. They stop at the port town of Thales and visit the slavers' association to have Lilith's slave prints removed, but they are shocked to learn that the procedure requires a sum of 10 gold coins and that Lilith will lose her life if her slave prints are not removed in the remaining one month. Realizing that time is running short, the two head for the forest, where they use their ingenuity to gather large quantities of rare fruits and defeat the powerful "Water Horse Mutant," to earn money and improve their level of skill at the same time. The next day, a woman claiming to be the head professor of a magic graduate school hears a rumor about Ryuuto and his friends and asks them to gather mandragoras in exchange for a large reward. After much hard work, they arrive at a place where mandragora grows, but it is a wilderness where not a single plant or tree grows. Ryuuto barely managed to find the seeds, and using his reincarnation benefit skill "Cultivation of Crops," he secured the required number of medicinal herbs, returned to town, and sold them to a mysterious woman. Although he received a price of more than 100 gold coins, the payment was delayed due to the huge amount.
  • However, Ryuuto's defeat of the "water horse mutant" earned him the hefty reward of 15 gold coins, and he succeeded in setting Lilith free. At the same time, Eslyn-Macbeth, who had won the title of champion in the arena of Vishmer, a casino city on the border between the human and demon worlds, was informed by his old acquaintance, the magician Merlin Onyx, of an interesting "villager" he had recently found.

After Ryuuto died the goddess gave him a skill, the skills given to a person who dies in the real world and is reincarnated in another world. When a person is reincarnated, he/she can be granted up to two of several different skills. Also, a skill can only be chosen once. Before reincarnation, only a rough outline of the skills is given, but some of them are powerful depending on how they are used. But in the case of Ryuuto, he doesn't pick any skill after he dies so many times he only remains the one goddess who choose the skill that was given to him.

  • This is one of the reincarnation benefit skills.
